Drama
The Drama Department at the University of Saskatchewan invites applications for the following one-year term positions at the rank of Assistant Professor. (1) Acting/Directing - The successful candidate will be on the cutting edge of directorial theory and practice in North America and will have expertise and knowledge in a broad range of theatrical forms and styles. Skill in set design or knowledge of non-western or aboriginal theatrical forms, puppetry or mask will also be an asset. Preference will be given to candidates who have a strong record of professional directorial experience and of teaching at the university level. An M.F.A. or a Ph.D. is required, or its equivalent in creative achievement, teaching, and professional theatre experience. The successful candidate will be capable of teaching a full range of undergraduate acting and directing classes and will be expected to direct major and workshop productions. (2) Acting - The successful candidate will teach a full range of acting courses and will be capable of directing major and workshop productions. Preference will be given to candidates who have expertise in Elizabethan acting and/or in film acting. Qualifications include an M.F.A. or a Ph.D., or their equivalent in creative achievement, teaching and professional theatre experience. The Department of Drama was the first degree-granting theatre program in the British Commonwealth. The Department has recently revised its curriculum in innovative ways, offering B.A., B.F.A., and M.A. degrees. Increased emphasis has been placed upon the Graduate program, and the Department has, in the past year, initiated exchange programs with universities in the Czech Republic and Costa Rica. Also in the past year, the Department has created a highly successful apprenticeship program with Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan. The Department is situated on the remarkable main campus of the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. The city boasts a vibrant arts scene, including four professional theatres, a symphony orchestra, and several art galleries. The University of Saskatchewan is committed to Employment Equity. Theatre
The Department of Theatre of the University of Ottawa invites applications for a tenure-track position at either the Associate or Assistant Professor level to commence 1 July, 2004. The Department offers a 3 year BA Concentration in English and in French and a bilingual 4 year Honours in Theatre, as well as a bilingual 3 year Concentration in Arts Administration. An MFA programme in Directing is anticipated to be instituted in 2004-2005 pending approval of the Senate of the University of Ottawa. Qualifications: a PhD in Theatre or the equivalent; experience in University teaching at a variety of levels; current and extensive knowledge of Dramaturgy and Theory of the Theatrical Event; and evidence of theoretical research. Candidates with experience in an area of theatre practice, such as but not restricted to directing, will be particularly welcomed. Initially, the teaching load will be in English. The University of Ottawa is justly proud of its 150-year tradition of bilingualism. Through its Second Language Institute, the University provides training to staff members and to their spouses in their second official language. At the time of tenure, professors are expected to have the ability to function in a bilingual setting. In certain cases, professors must have the ability to teach in both official languages to be granted tenure. Salary to be negotiated in accordance with the terms of the Collective Agreement. Concordia University. The Department of Theatre is embarking on an exciting period of renewal and is looking for interesting combinations of artists/scholars to assist us in developing a new vision. We are inviting applications for two tenure-track positions at the level of Assistant Professor, pending budgetary approval. Applicants should have experience and expertise in one or more of the following areas: Theatre Performance, Theatre Studies, Theatre and Development. Cross or interdisciplinary competencies will be considered a definite asset. Candidates should have a completed or nearly completed terminal degree (MFA or PhD), and/or in the case of senior artists, a significant body of professional work. Experience and demonstrated excellence in scholarship and teaching at the university level are highly desirable. Successful candidates will be expected to develop and maintain productive research profiles leading to external funding and/or collaborations, and possess administrative skills and/or an energetic commitment to program development. In the area of Theatre Performance, applicants will be required to teach acting at both introductory and advanced levels. We are particularly interested in strong qualifications and teaching experience in the areas of voice, speech, movement, and/or directing. Applicants in the area of Theatre Studies will have expertise in some combination of: history, theory, text analysis, directing, and/or production. Successful candidates will possess strong qualifications as a researcher, dramaturge, and/or director.
