Theatre at UBC
Degree Programs: BA Drama (Integrated Drama Program)
BA Drama Advisor: Ernest Mathijs
The Integrated Drama Program or IDP offers a set of courses that lead to a Bachelor of Arts in Drama. The program is designed to serve a multiplicity of purposes: it provides students with a survey of all forms and periods of drama; it enables them to compare drama to related disciplines such as film, dance, contemporary performance studies, and opera; it introduces them to elements that correlate page, stage, and screen; and it persuades them to discover the intellectual wealth of drama and theatre studies in all its cross-disciplinary potential. Next to that, the Drama Program fosters a close relationship with theatrical activities at UBC, and across Vancouver’s brimming theatre scene. Drama courses encourage students to engage in critical discussions of the public place and function of theatre, and to offer scholarly reflections on the connection between text and performance.
Faculty teaching in the Drama Program include Professors Jerry Wasserman, Kirsty Johnston, and Ernest Mathijs. The Program also has an active provision of eloquent sessional lecturers, visiting fellows and guest speakers from the top of the discipline.
The program offers both a Major and a Minor. Students will be required to seek advising and approval before embarking in the program.
If you have any further questions about the Drama Program, please contact the Program Advisor, Dr. Ernest Mathijs.
