ELECTRIC COMPANY HISTORY :

electric companyThe core members of the Electric Company met while training at Vancouver’s highly acclaimed Studio 58 acting school. Since 1992 they have been working together to create original physically based theatre. Collectively their talents and skills include acting, writing, direction, design, education, and arts administration. In 1996, the Electric Company was formally switched on with their breakthrough production of Brilliant! The Blinding Enlightenment of Nikola Tesla, which marked the emergence of their unique style and method of creation. Previous Electric Company productions include:

The Electric Company has received 55 Jessie Richardson Award Nominations and earned of 27 Jessie Awards for Excellence in Theatre including:

  • Four for Best Production (Brilliant!, The Score, The One That Got Away,& The Fall)
  • Twice for Best Original Script (Brilliant! & The Score)
  • Outstanding Performance by a Lead Actor (Jonathon Young, The Palace Grand)
  • Twice for Best Direction (Kim Collier, The Score & The One That Got Away)
  • Outstanding Emerging Director (2000, Kim Collier)
  • Winner of the Alcan Performing Arts Award 2001 – the first of its kind cash award for the creation of a new project (Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands)
